Automakers have made great promises about fuel-cell vehicles (FCVs) since around 2000, and as of 2014/2015 a few began to be leased in more-than-prototype numbers, and even sold outright in the case of the Toyota Mirai. The Mirai and Hyundai Nexo are dedicated FCV models, so it is easy to find US delivery numbers from monthly corporate sales press releases (quarterly for Toyota starting in 2020). The Honda Clarity also started as an FCV-only nameplate, but subsequently battery-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions were introduced and only the sum was reported by Honda; I relied upon InsideEVs for estimates of the number of each version that were delivered, but as noted elsewhere, they have had to abandon their regular reporting of sales of FCV, EV, and PHEV models in the USA as of the end of 2019. Overall Clarity sales fell sharply in 2020 and the nameplate was discontinued in 2021, though, so probably very few FCVs would be added to the total plotted to the end of 2019 in the figure above (blue line) if I could find those numbers.
The tables below list the numbers of USA deliveries of FCVs that I have collected over time from the above sources. The earliest FCV on this plot, the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell, was also available (for lease only) "in limited ZIP Codes" in the United States, and though Hyundai didn't release monthly data I tracked down a few cumulative numbers (green dots in the figure) from press releases like this one announcing the first U.S. delivery in 2014.
